Lost - Season Finale, the Series' First Flash-Forward & Locke and Charlie
I don't even have words for what just occurred on Lost.
For those that haven't watched the season finale, look away. There be spoilers here, yar.
So, when Lost last left us before the finale, we were left with many hanging questions. I can't even begin to touch on all of them, but at the top of the list was:
- Charlie? Is he going to die?
- Locke? Is he already dead?
- Who are those girls down there in the Looking Glass / Dharma Station?
- What the shit's Ben on about? (Okay, so that's been a long-time question)
Seriously, what just happened?! Okay, that was obviously a flash-forward at the end (well, I suppose it was a flash-forward throughout the show, but I was clueless until the end!), but what the shit? This is the first time we've ever been truly teased with a glimpse of the future. So, it is a real island? I know they've been saying forever that it's not Purgatory, but what about all that "all of the 815 passengers were dead." Was that just crap that Naomi was giving us.
Is the moral of the story, "Never trust a girl named 'Naomi'?"
This is what I love to refer to as a mind-fuck. That's right. A mind-fuck. Obviously, I didn't think up that term, but there's just no other way to describe it. I was mostly unspoiled. I knew about Locke's encounter with Walt and Charlie's death. But this flash forward stuff. Carlton Cuse. Damon Lindeloff. You guys are DIRTY. You play dirty. If this was dodge ball, you'd be throwing that ball and hitting me in the nose with it. DIRTY.
So, round up. What do we know? Or better yet, what do we think we know?
- First off, and most importantly, Locke is alive.
- Charlie died in the Looking Glass station.
- Hurley used the Volkswagon van to save Jin, Bernard and Sayid - and ultimately Sawyer and Juliet.
- Jack does, indeed, love Kate and told her so.
- Kate wonders if she is in fact pregnant with Saywer's child due to Juliet's conversation to Ben on the tape.
- Naomi, the girl that parachuted onto the island, was apparently not who she was pretending to be.
- We know this because Charlie spoke with Penelope, Desmond's better half, on the radio at the Looking Glass station and she knew of no boat as Naomi had said she did in an earlier episode.
- Locke, apparently dying in the trench where the original Dharma members were buried, was going to kill himself, but Walt appeared and told him he had a job to do.
- After 16 years, Danielle's transmission was turned off allowing contact with the outside world. Namely, whoever brought Naomi to the island.
Now, what mysteries opened themselves anew with this finale?
- Who is Naomi with and why do they want on the Island so desperately?
- In the flash-forward, why does Jack keep referring to his father as being alive? Is it the Oxycodone talking or is something seriously wonky with this flash-forward.
- Who was Jack visiting in the coffin? Obviously one of the former Lost-aways, but who? Could it be Locke?
- Who is Kate with? She tells Jack she has to get back to him before he wonders where she is. Is it Sawyer? Or is Sawyer the one in the coffin?
I have to give it to the writers on this one. I sat with my mouth open the last ten minutes. And I don't know how, because I wasn't spoiled, but when Jack told the woman on the phone he needed to see her and drove up to the airport, I knew it was Kate.
Furthermore, does this mean that Ben's somewhat of a "good guy?" Impossible, says me.
However, Charlie did die. That kinda tore my heart out a little bit. And it seems that he may have died for nothing at all, which really makes me sad.
I can only hope that Dominic Monaghan gets some great new roles in the future. He's a fantastic actor that has managed to make me care insanely for a character not once, but twice.
Oh Lost. You are so evil. But I am like a drug addict. Where shall I get my fix before January?! Does Jack have some future Lost episodes in that hospital stash of his?

This episode screwed me over. I don't understand! It's driving me insane! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Also, didn't Lindeloff and Cuse say in Season 1 that Charlie was the one character they wouldn't kill?
I don't know. My head's still spinning. I even dreamt Lost dreams all night.

I dreamt about kittens.
And I don't know about that comment by Lindeloff and Cuse. I'd be surprised because I once thought they had said that no one was safe.

It can't be a flashforward ...
-Kate should be in prison ( She's wanted )
-Jack says : Go find my dad and if he is more sober than me you can fire me
( So apparently his dad isn't dead yet )
